OUTREACH
Square Roots Windsor

Everyone Needs to Eat
The world produces enough food to feed EVERY SINGLE PERSON; so why are there people still hungry and unable to access this food? In Canada alone, $31 billion dollars of food each year ends up in landfills or composters and Square Roots wants YOUR help to change these facts. Square Roots aims to redirect food, that would otherwise go to waste, into the hands of those who would benefit from it most.
This “ugly” produce is perfect for eating! So why does it get thrown out?
Supermarkets only purchase the perfect looking fruits and vegetables from NS farmers, and because of this, the ones that don’t meet this standard get wasted. We knew this was a problem because who cares if a potato is too big or if a carrot has two legs? That’s what happens when you grow natural, local food!
10 lbs of fresh fruits and vegetables for $7.50 or $10.00 (Whichever price is best suited to your budget). Please bring a reusable bag!

Mission and Service

Mission and Service is who we are and what we do. It is a United Fund for a United Vision. It is about our church commitment to respond to Jesus’ call to love and serve others.
Our committee is responsible for educating the congregation about mission. We do this by sharing a “Minute for Mission” twice a month during Sunday worship, visiting the Sunday School, and leading a M&S church service once a year.
We also organize events throughout the year to raise funds to help us meet our yearly financial goal. Those events include our yearly “Apple Pie Fundraiser” which is a great time for fun and fellowship, our Advent Celebration Tree, coffee parties, and our summer luncheon in June. During Advent and Lent, we use special M&S envelopes for donations to World Development & Relief (WDR).
Gifts for M&S bring healing, justice and hope to life. Contributions help support ministries and programs in Canada and around the world. As part of our outreach, we collect winter clothing for those in need, and during the month of February we set up a display to encourage people of our congregation to donate non-perishable food items as well as personal items for Harvest House.
Our committee has five meetings a year during the months of January, March, May, September and November. We meet at the church downstairs on a Tuesday at 7:00 pm. We welcome any new members who are interested in joining our team.
Windsor United Church Mission & Service strongly supports the outreach extended by Matthew 25, Windsor and District Food Bank. We invite Congregation members to donate as they are able. Weekly deliveries are made to the food bank on behalf of the Church.
